The Committee on Community Affairs explores and review quality of life issues affecting Westchester residents and develops policies and legislation to protect and enhance the quality of life for all citizens county-wide. It accomplishes this objective by evaluating social services programs run by the County or by non-profits by way of County grants.

Other areas of interest that fall within the purview of the Community Affairs Committee are:

• Implementation of Workforce Development Act in Westchester
• Understanding the effects of utility deregulation
• Reviewing and supporting Westchester Community College satellites in County cities
• Monitoring transportation issues in County
• Increasing opportunities for inter-governmental cooperation
• Raising public awareness of impacts of E-commerce
• increasing public support for Westchester County’s tourism effort
• Improving cooperation between government, corporate and not-for-profit sectors regarding affordable housing
• Encouraging County and municipal governments to improve social service
